Historique de la conférence

“Insects to Feed the World” from the 13th to the 16th of June in Quebec City is the 4th iteration of the event, gathering academics and experts from around the world to exchange on the latest advancements in the field of edible insects and entotechnologies. This international conference is a unique opportunity to propel edible insects as an integral part in the future of sustainable agriculture and food systems.

This event’s goal is to facilitate the dialogue and the exchange of research results on the uses of insects in the context of food and feed security, toward building evidence-based legislations, advancing communal knowledge, and promoting innovation for the sector. It offers to participants an effective platform to learn, meet other actors in the field, exchange ideas, present research and build the bases of future collaborations. The conference is an umbrella for a wide variety of topics relating to insects, such as uses in food, production systems, processing, conservation, food safety, legislations, uses in feed, circular economy, and environmental sustainability, as well as non-food applications.

As the actual sanitary situation may hinder the ability of individuals to travel and attend the conference, the IFW 2022 conference will be held in a bimodal format.

A conference born from a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) initiative – The conference was first organized in the Netherlands, through the collaboration of the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) and the FAO. This initiative was the direct result of the recommendations from the FAO Expert Meeting on Edible Insects (January 2012) and the FAO-WUR joint publication “Edible insects: Future prospects for food and feed security”, published by FAO as Forestry Paper 171 (May 2013). The conference was also held in Wuhan, China in 2018, and was organized but virtually held from Quebec, Canada in 2020 because of the sanitary restrictions linked to COVID-19.

Academics, government organizations, professionals, industrial partners, and interest citizens are invited to attend this bimodal conference.

“Eating Insect North” the public event from the 16th to the 18th of June at Le Grand Marché de Québec – In an effort to share the benefit of this unique conference with the citizens of Quebec, IFW is proud to present an all-free activity “Eating Insect North”.
